About the show
In spite of being baffled by the overnight appearance of what appears to be a rock with a leg, all of the woodland creatures are deciding which events will take place to honor Sports Day. Mr. Sett, a badger, is disturbed that there is not much interest in the Grass Eating Competition, the Tree Climbing Competition or even the Curling in a Ball and Rolling down a Hill Race. His disappointment grows worse when he is informed that Reynard, the fox has sprained a paw and will not compete with Mr. Fleet in the Cross Country.
None of the animals volunteer to race the boastful Hare until suddenly the rock with a leg moves and they meet Mr. Sloe, a Tortoise who accepts the challenge. The play presents a behind the scenes look at one of the most celebrated of all races, the race between the slow moving Tortoise and the scatter brained boastful Hare as they make their way through a world of confusing, foolish and unintelligible humans. The script offers wonderful and challenging roles for teen actors.

A note about the humans: Their speech is unintelligible to the animals. Actors will speak a language written for this production which reflects the playwright’s suggestions for what they are saying. This offers a wonderful challenge to actors to convey intention and text without the use of English words.

Beautiful post. How can we say that feminism has done its work until each of us can walk on the street alone without fear, annoyance, or embarassment?
