Information & Communications Specialist II
The primary purpose of this position is to manage the N.C. Arts Council’s online marketing presence, which includes multiple Web sites and social media profiles; implement new technology and internet based marketing strategies and their application for the arts industry in North Carolina. Position manages various Web sites, including updating Web content & designing pages using several content management systems. This position designs and produces electronic newsletters and edits and produces podcasts (audio and video). Position works in a PC environment.
ResponsibilitiesThe position is responsible for managing multiple Web sites (for arts organizations and artists and the general public) to assure that sites function appropriately at all times, are visually appealing and operate as the Agency’s prime marketing tool. Web sites and electronic marketing is the primary means of outreach for North Carolina and beyond, providing arts information to help citizens become creative and to encourage participation in community arts programs. Sites include: www.ncarts.org; http://ncartseveryday.org/;
http://ncartstrails.org/.
The Web sites includes constantly changing main program text pages as well as several hundred pages of linked secondary or sub-pages, in addition to the volume of information available from the Arts Council database. The main Web site receives an average of 210,000 visitors a year.
Position serves as the liaison with vendor hosting the Web site.
Position will design new arts tourism Web site to match an established HTML/CSS template and work with an established content management system. Position will also maintain other arts tourism sites.
Position leads the Arts Council’s electronic marketing efforts including the design and programming of a minimum of three e-mail newsletters, and post-production of videos and podcasts.
Position ensures consistent use of the Arts Council’s graphic identity, consistent use of design principles and techniques in all electronic and print publications, and has an understanding of good information architecture producing materials that are clear, aesthetically pleasing and befitting a nationally recognized state arts organization.
Position may handle routine design of printed materials, including post cards, flyers, as well as PowerPoint presentations.
Qualifications * Advanced, extensive experience in Web design and Adobe’s Creative Suite, including Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, and illustrator.
* Formal training in desktop publishing applications and photography is desired; superior knowledge of current Web design trends/techniques
* Must be proficient in Microsoft office, especially PowerPoint.
* Must have excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to effectively convey information to a wide audience.
* A strong online portfolio displaying user-centered design and experience with Web database solutions.
* Experience in or an affinity for the arts is extremely desirable.
Employee must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team and perform with multiple projects and deadlines.
Training and Experience RequirementsGraduation from a four-year College or University, preferably with a major in journalism or English and two years experience in communication, public relations, or publicity work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions. Management prefers a degree in liberal arts or design and additional directly related education, training and experience as specified in qualifications above.
Position requires some travel and occasional night work. Include a resume. Design samples (print and Web) will be requested at interview stage.
Hiring Range$36,685 - $38,177, depending upon experience and the availability of funds.
Benefits total approximately 21% of salary.
