North Carolina Theatre is excited to open its 2010 season with The Full Monty, starring two-time Emmy award-winning actress, Sally Struthers and Raleigh favorite, Ira David Wood III. Directed by Matt Lenz, the show will run Saturday, February 27th through Sunday, March 7th in Raleigh Memorial Auditorium at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.
NC Theatre has never produced The Full Monty before and has assembled a stellar cast from Broadway and Raleigh. In addition to Sally Struthers, the cast includes:
Ira David Wood III (Harold) is the founder and executive director of Raleigh’s Theatre in the Park and is best known to local audiences as “Scrooge” in Theatre in the Park’s internationally acclaimed A Christmas Carol.
Jarrod Emick (Jerry) won a Tony Award® for his portrayal of “Joe Hardy” in Damn Yankees. His other Broadway credits include Ring of Fire, The Boy from Oz, The Rocky Horror Show, The Full Monty and Miss Saigon. Most recently he was seen on the NC Theatre stage as “Phillippe” in Yeston & Kopit’s Phantom.
Julie Reiber (Georgie) was the “Elphaba” standby in the smash-hit Broadway musical Wicked and also appeared in All Shook Up and Bklyn.
Angie Schworer (Vicki) has been in the Broadway productions of Young Frankenstein, The Producers, Chicago, Annie Get Your Gun, Sunset Boulevard, Crazy for You, The Will Rogers Follies and Encores! Tenderloin.
Kingsley Leggs (Horse) recently starred in NC Theatre’s production of Dreamgirls as “James Thunder Early.” On Broadway, Leggs has been in The Color Purple and Miss Saigon and in the National Tours of Miss Saigon, Ragtime and It Ain’t Nothing But the Blues.
Joe Coots (Dave) played “Dave” in the National Tour and regional productions of The Full Monty, most recently starring Elaine Stritch.
There is great heart in The Full Monty as six unemployed Buffalo steelworkers come up with a bold way to make some quick cash. In the process they discover their renewed self-esteem, the importance of friendship and the ability to have fun. Nominated for nine Tony Awards®, The Full Monty is a feel-good musical with a modern and delightfully wicked sensibility.
